Huge !!

Qatar has announced plans to construct a gigantic rotating crystal ball for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, to host a sports museum and shopping center for tourists. The project concept was conceived by Danijel Koletić of Apriori Communications, who tasked architects Vedran Pedišić (SANGRAD) and Erick Velasco Farerra (AVP- arhitekti) to realize the idea.

In response Pedišić and Farerra have created the oversized crystal ball, designed to spin slowly in a spiral path around a central vertical axis.

By day the exterior takes on an iridescent effect, glittering with light of the sun and filtering daylight into the interior; by night the orb transforms into a glowing installation.

Microsoft owned Sype has burst onto the tech scene over the past few years, and has quickly become a household name. We are huge fans of the service, and even bigger fans of their new office space in the greater San Francisco area of California, USA.

Tech companies are known for creating some of the most innovative work places, and Skype does not disappoint. The brand was looking to differentiate and distinguish their work environment from the other Palo Alto based companies in order to help recruit the best talent and promote a collaborative work force.

The company employs 250 individuals at this 54,000 square feet location, and open spaces is definitely the name of the game.

Paris 2012...

e-XIV is an acronym of 'electric - eXciting user Interface Vehicle'. The CUV builds on previous design concepts the XIV and KEV, with the e-XIV fitted with a range extender.
One of the key features on the e-XIV is its glass roof with an integrated 12 solar cell panel. The panel generates power for the car's aux systems, whilst providing the interior of the car with more natural light.
Amazingly SsangYong says that the car has a range of up to 600km thanks to the car's range extender capability.
Design-wise the e-XIV has been designed with contemporary features to appeal to a younger market. Inside is a four-bucket-seat configuration complemented by materials such as carbon fibre.

Resident Evil 6,,,

To help hype yet another version of the hugely popular zombie game, Capcom opened a temporary human butcher shop in the Smithfield meat market East London. Yes it is real meat, though apparently it is not human meat. I don't know what kind of meat it is.

The limbs, torsos, and offal (including penis tips) were crafted by food artist Sharon Baker. Sales proceeds will go to the Limbless Association.

To Death...

Steven Deuman, 26, of Suttons Bay, Michgan, has been found guilty of the August 2011 murder of his daughter, Evelynne Deuman, 15 weeks old. The young father was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated sexual assault for suffocating his child during an oral rape. Deuman told police that he went out for a cigarette and when he returned to their mobile home, he found the baby lying on the floor unconscious, not breathing, bleeding from the nose, with a used condom in her mouth. DNA testing showed Deuman’s DNA on the inside of the prophylactic, and the child’s on the outside.
Deuman did not call 911, but called his wife and told her that the baby had choked on a condom. However, according to the prosecution, “This was no accident. She couldn’t roll over, much less crawl. … She certainly wasn’t capable of overcoming the obstacles on her bed, the pillows, to end up on the floor. Even if (she did), how is she going to suck that condom up?”
Not only did jurors have to endure the disturbing evidence of this case, but they also heard testimony from witnesses describing how Deuman allegedly sexually abused them as children. Jurors took less than 30 minutes to convict. Deuman faces life in prison.

Other than a few variants on tracks or some future designs that fly, motorcycles all have wheels and we know what wheels look like, some sort of disc rotating either forward of backward, right? Well, maybe not, because this group of students from Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering at San Jose State University looked at a few sci-fi vehicles and thought, “Hey, why not balls?” Why not, indeed? They’ve designed and begun building a senior project to demonstrate the feasibility of something most of us would not even consider.

The spherical wheels are constructed of carbon fiber and fiberglass with an industrial rubber coating and are friction driven by three electric motors mounted slightly off center on top of the ball. Because of the three motor arrangement, the balls can rotate or spin in any direction which makes for a rather unstable platform on which to base a motorcycle, but the students plan to address this issue with a computer control system using a gyro-accelerometer combination to determine the necessary movements needed to maintain balance and move in the proper direction.

As a senior project, this is extremely interesting and makes a fine showcase for the students’ abilities, but as a practical matter, it seems they will have to overcome a great many problems which, in the end, may lead to a motorcycle with no real advantage over conventional wheels.
