The Tipu Sultan Merkez School in Punjab, Pakistan has a new sustainable building that was designed by German architects Roswag Seiler and built by locals. Using locally sourced and low-impact materials, the shelter was fashioned from cob, bamboo and mud. Cob is widely used in Pakistan, and is a material made from clay, sand, water and straw. The concoction can easily be mixed by bulls, and once set, works as a natural insulator that keeps humidity at bay and interiors cool.


Punjab is the most populated city in Pakistan, and consequently there is a lack of jobs and a high level of poverty. The original school was failing to meet the growing needs of the school and increasing amount of students, so Roswag Seiler Architects decided to build a larger shelter that would still respect tradition and common building methods.


The new building has two floors - the lower one made from cob and bricks, and the top one with strong renewable bamboo and mud walls. Bamboo scaffolding and stairs connect ten rooms, service areas and the study zone. The flat roof was made using a classic Pakistani technique and consists of three bamboo layers and mud. During winter, the building is heated by solar power thanks to its north-south orientation, and big windows welcome lots of light.
The Tipu Sultan Merkez School in Punjab also supports ecological agriculture projects and was awarded a construction grant after achieving the sustainable building Holcim Awards.

Initially, breast cancer may not cause any symptoms. A lump may be too small for you to feel or to cause any unusual changes you can notice on your own. Often, an abnormal area turns up on a screening mammogram (x-ray of the breast), which leads to further testing.

In some cases, however, the first sign of breast cancer is a new lump or mass in the breast that you or your doctor can feel. A lump that is painless, hard, and has uneven edges is more likely to be cancer. But sometimes cancers can be tender, soft, and rounded. So it's important to have anything unusual checked by your doctor.

According to the American Cancer Society, any of the following unusual changes in the breast can be a symptom of breast cancer:
*swelling of all or part of the breast
*skin irritation or dimpling
*breast pain
*nipple pain or the nipple turning inward
*redness, scaliness, or thickening of the nipple or breast skin
*a nipple discharge other than breast milk
*a lump in the underarm area

These changes also can be signs of less serious conditions that are not cancerous, such as an infection or a cyst. It's important to get
any breast changes checked out promptly by a doctor.

Redbud Woman

Ever fancied meeting up with a superhero? Well you could have, had you been in Beijing this past Christmas Eve. For that was the day a real-life superhero walked the streets of the city, helping out the poor. She calls herself the 'Chinese Redbud Woman'.
Dressed in low-cut black tights and wearing a blue mask, her pictures leave us wondering if she attracted attention for more than just her generosity. Jokes aside, she did do a pretty good job of helping out - handing out food, warm clothing and gifts to beggars and homeless people. Why she didn't put on some of the warm clothing herself on a cool December night, is something we don't have an answer to. The appearance of this mysterious woman did cause a stir of sorts among the residents of Beijing. People started talking about her on the internet and in local media. Pictures of her acts of kindness at public places such as the Xidan subway station and in front of the Wangfujing bookstore have been doing the rounds ever since the night of Christmas Eve. The superlady herself communicates with the world through a microblog, written in Chinese. She currently has over 7,000 fans online.


Her message to the world through the microblog loosely translates as, "Today is my first day as the Chinese Redbud Woman, feeling a little nervous. Already prepared the military coats and food for the elderly, also many thanks to the hand warmer friend gave me." A reporter was curious about the identity of the Chinese Redbud Woman, and contacted her through a private message on the microblog. However, she refused to provide any information saying that she just wants to help people in need, and it doesn't matter who she is. Interestingly, this isn't the first instance of the Chinese Redbud Woman. A lady sporting the same superhero moniker made an appearance last May, wearing the exact same outfit. She received great attention when she handed out food and cash to people in Hong Kong.
While everyone seems to be fascinated with comic book characters like the X-Men or the Avengers, there seem to be real superheroes walking among us, actually doing something'

Crossing the road with style

Emma stone is awesome.


Stone began acting as a child as a member of the Valley Youth Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, where she made her stage debut in a production of Kenneth Grahame's "The Wind in the Willows". She appeared in many more productions through her early teens until, at the age of 15, she decided that she wanted to make acting her career.







The official story is that she made a PowerPoint presentation, backed by Madonna's "Hollywood" and itself entitled "Project
Hollywood", in an attempt to persuade her parents to allow her to drop out of school and move to Los Angeles. The pitch was successful and she and her mother moved to LA with her schooling completed at home while she spent her days auditioning.
She had her TV breakthrough when she won the part of Laurie Partridge in the VH1 talent/reality show "In Search of the Partridge Family" which led to a number of small TV roles in the following years.
Her movie debut was as Jules in "Superbad" and, after a string of successful performances, her leading role as Olive in "Easy A" established her as a star.

The Poetree is made out of a ceramic ring with the deceased's details, plus a cork container and stopper. Relatives can place the deceased's ashes in the urn and take it home, along with a boxwood tree sapling in a biodegradable pot. When they are ready, the cork stopper is removed, soil can be poured inside the urn, and the small tree may be planted in the ashes.

After giving the boxwood tree some time to grow, the urn can then be planted outside, where the corkcontainer can biodegrade, leaving only the ceramic ring as a marker and a living, growing tree tocommemorate those who have passed on. It's a gorgeous idea that transforms the traditional 'static' viewof death into something that is fluid and triumphantly hopeful.
